Mouth watering steak sandwiches are a must for summer
Preparation time10 minutes
Cooking time17 minutes

  • 2 red onions, halved, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 4 minute sirloin beef steaks
  • 8 slices white bread, toasted
  • Barbecue sauce & jacket potatoes to serve

  1. Preheat barbecue grill and flat plate on medium-high.
  2. Combine the onions, oil, vinegar and sugar in a large ceramic or glass dish. Place a sheet of non-stick baking paper onto flat plate. Spread onions over paper and barbecue, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes or until caramelised. Transfer onions to a bowl. Discard paper.
  3. Meanwhile, barbecue the steaks on the grill plate for 1 minute each side for medium or until cooked to your liking. Transfer to a plate. Cover with foil and set aside for 5 minutes to rest. Add to onion mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Spread toasted bread with barbecue sauce. Cut the steaks in half and place onto bread. Top with onions and remaining bread. Cut in half. Serve with extra sauce and jacket potatoes.
