How can i speed up the time it takes to heat water when using as a sous vide?

Add warm not cold water to the pan, before you set the temperature. Sous Vide requires cooking at a low and stable temperatures so it can not heat up too quickly. It may take up to an hour to heat the water to the set temperature if you use cold water.

How do i know when my roast chicken is cooked?

Chicken is cooked all the way through by inserting a skewer or knife into the meatiest part of the chicken. The juices will be clear when the chicken is cooked through. If the juices are pink, a little more cooking is required.

How do i slow cook a roast?

We recommend sealing your meat first. Trim away any excess fat, rub the meat with a little oil and season. Brown the meat in a frypan by cooking the meat for a few minutes on each side. Set the slow cooker to LOW or HIGH and cook for the appropriate time (LOW 2 hours per 500g, HIGH 1 hour per 500g).

Cutting vegetables and meats for slow cooking.

Meats often cook faster than root vegetables. It is for this reason that we recommend chopping all vegetables to a similar small size. Meat can be cut into larger chunks because if it is cut too small, it will break up once cooked and tenderised.

Creating your own slow cooker recipes.

Slow Cooking prevents evaporation, resulting in the flavours and juices being maintained. Keep this in mind when creating your own recipes, as you may not require as much liquid as you would when using other cooking methods.

How do i remove excess fat from gravies and stocks?

To remove the excess fat, cool in the fridge overnight, then skim the solidified fat from the surface.

How do i make a great sauce or gravy for roast meats?

You can make sauce or gravy with the roast juices. Remove the meat and cover with foil to keep warm. Using a hot frypan stir through some cornflour mixed with a little water. Then allow to simmer, stirring until thickened. You can also add some stock or wine to stretch the gravy a little further and add great flavour.

It's too small and temperatures are not precise enough for serious use, but if you don't decide to go sous vide you can use it as a slow cooker, nothing lost! I have made a few excellent dishes with it - sous vide eggs, porter house steak, boned leg of lamb and salmon fillets. All really excellent. I will be graduating to the Breville machine, unfortunately nearly twice the price in Oz as overseas but no good complaining. On the downside the instruction and recipe manual is appalling.

I brought the Sunbeam MU4000 Duos Sous Vide & Slow Cooker 2 weeks ago, the main reason I brought it was for the Sous Vide cooking function, I've used it 4 times now 1st time I put 800 grams of steak tenderloins in the Food Saver bag with 2 cloves of garlic 4 sprigs of rosemary and 50 grams of butter and sealed the bag and put it the Sous Vide cooker at 56c for 45 minutes and then after the timer went off I grilled both sides of the steaks for 30 seconds a side and then served them, one of my mate who ate all he could say was WOW! then admitted that the steaks were as good as any restaurant that he has ever been to, so if you want the best steaks, chicken or any other food rush out and buy one of these incredible cookers!

The appliance is extremely easy to use. The Dogs Sous Vide creates mouthwatering melt in your mouth meat. The steaks in it are divine. I have used a number of Slow Cookers and this undoubtably creates the most delectable.

The slow cooker however is bad. Cooked chicken & pork on high for 4hrs but still wasn't soft as it was from my other slow cooker. Bulky for just sous use so I have mixed feelings about this item.
