The types of coffee machines
Manual: For people who like control over their coffee-making, the coffee grounds are loaded by hand into a cup-shaped filter. Capsule: Easy to use and mess-free, simply insert the sealed capsule (""pod"") of pre-ground, pre-measured coffee. Automatic/Semi-automatic: Decide what you want your coffee machine to do for you. Some models perform tasks at the push of a button, including cleaning the machine. They also offer a range of pre-sets for one, two or three shots of espresso at the push of a button.
Grinding the coffee beans
Some coffee machines have a built-in coffee bean grinder, which can be adjusted for coarse, medium, fine or extra-fine granules. Coffee grinders come in three types: Wheel burr grinders: The beans are crushed between two wheels, one spinning very fast and the other stationary. These can be noisy. Conical burr grinders: A metal cone at the base rotates against another surface at the top. These spin more slowly, tend to clog less and are quieter. Blade grinders: Beans are sliced finely using a blade. These may grind beans unevenly and leave coffee with a slight burnt taste if ground too long. If the espresso maker doesn't have an in-built coffee grinder, you'll need to buy a standalone one or use pre-ground coffee instead.
What is a thermoblock?
This is the internal component of a coffee maker that heats water to the optimum temperature range for making coffee (between 85°C and 96°C). For good flavour it's important that you don't scald the coffee. Machines with twin thermoblocks make coffee quicker because they heat the water for the coffee and create steam for frothing the milk at the same time.

Great machine, cafe quality coffee
Purchased this machine on sale in August 2015 and am so happy with it. It has taken me some practice but I am now making cafe quality lattes etc with it. The secret, I have discovered, is tamping the coffee hard into the portafilter to get the perfect crema!

GREAT COFFEE AND FEATURES
Hi, I wish to comment on how disappointed I am about the ongoing problems I have had with my Sunbeam EM7000 Coffee Machine. After much research and consideration I decided to purchase the EM7000 in February this year (2015). However, I am now on my 4th replacement machine. The 1st machine had to be replaced after only a couple of days due to the group head becoming loose. The 2nd machine was leaking water from the group head seal from start. Upon removing the seal it was discovered that there was foreign material around where the seal seated that was not able to be removed therefore unable to form a proper seal between the group head and group handle. The third replacement machine only recently developed a leak from where the steam wand entered the main body and at the same time the steam thermoblock was making very load clunking noises. I am now on my fourth EM7000 in since February and unfortunately I am not comfortable that this machine will not develop a fault shortly like the first three machines. I bought the EM7000 because of the many advanced programming features and up until now have been happy to have the machine replaced expecting that I would not encounter any more problems. I just wish to add that Sunbeam Customercare have been very helpful in authorising the replacement of the faulty machines and that the retailer has also been very good in organising a replacement.

served me so well
I had this machine from new for over 4 years in which time I it performed brilliantly for the price. I had only 2 services with part replacements needed. On upgrading I have given to a friend who loves it to. 7 years on still making great coffee.

Good upgrade from the EM6910
Bought in boxing day specials to replace my Sunbeam EM6910 which I have had for over 6 years and losing pressure.
After about a month of use I am generally happy with the unit. Good pressure, quieter than the old machine, steams well and fast. The temperature gauge in the steamer is an awesome feature, no more where have I left the thermometer for the jug game.
The only negative, is I am not getting good crema, I have not delved into the instructions yet to play with some settings, but find I am have to damp down the ground coffee very hard to get any crema at all.
Otherwise extremely happy with the purchase.

Awful Garbage
I just picked this up, got it home did the required cleaning and went to pour a coffee, no pressure, no crema, just flat black awful coffee and 100ml for a double shot, not the 60ml that it states will pour every time for "the perfect coffee" I've been using Sunbeam machines for years but never again, i've wasted an afternoon driving across town to pick up this junk, over an hour of cleaning and trying to pour an even an average coffee and now I've wasted a ton of coffee trying different grinds to make it work and all it pours is bitter black disappointment! I'll be taking this back in the morning wasting more of my time as well as having to buy a coffee on the way because hundreds of dollars worth of Sunbeam coffee machine apparently cant, this is the last cent i'll part with for a Sunbeam product

Top notch coffee at home
After using this brilliant machine at home for quite a while now, I can highly recommend this Cafe Series machine to anyone wanting to make excellent coffee in their own home.
It is very well designed and built; made from beautiful stainless steel, it is sturdy and reliable. Works as is supposed to every time.
Large water capacity, quick warm-up time, integrated temperature sensor in the steam wand, cup warming zone and easy to clean.
This product simply works as it should and does it well. Good job Sunbeam.

lasted me for years without problems
I have had this for more than five years now and it has not missed a beat. It does need very finely ground coffee packed tightly to get high pressure, you can tell fresh beans by how slow the pour goes. I do struggle to get textured milk but that might be my technique and hilo milk. Recommend it highly for a semiautomatic machine.

great machine, cannot fault it at all
I bought this machine in 2008, had the pump repaired once and replaced the level indicator float once. Now the water level light is flashing but the float seems to be operating properly, has anyone had this problem and if it not the float itself could it be in the machine.
